As a result of the increasing digitalization, several new professions have grown. How will digitalization, automation and robotics affect the job market in the coming years?

Experts believe it will be a great need for people with computer science expertise in two of Norway’s major industries, offshore and maritime sectors. Ove Ryland, Executive Director of EPIM, the oil and gas operators’ own organization for cooperation and information sharing, also highlights the combination of digital competence and domain expertise as important for the future oil-worker.

Ryland believe centralized operators with control and overview of more or less autonomous systems will take over many of the tasks currently performed by offshore workers. Further, he also stresses that this also means fewer jobs in the industry as a whole. – 10,000 lost jobs will not be replaced with 10,000 new, he says.
